Alice Black

The IGI shows Alice as being born 'abt. 1844' in Inkpen but we understand it is more like 1837. Her christening entry has not yet been found. She married Vandelow (or Vanlo) Barney at a date and place unknown.

They had nine children:

Lavinia - christened 7 Sep 1859 at Binstead, Hampshire. She married Noah Bowers. Lavinia died on 4 Feb 1932. There is a picture of her in the Photo Album.

"She was burned with her wagon in a Gypsy ceremony when she died."

Emma - christened 3 Mar 1861 at Chilworth, Hampshire. She married 'Mr Birch'
Ameline - christened 6 Sep 1863 at Holybourne, Hampshire and married Britannia Smith
Brittannia - christend 17 Sep 1865 at Holybourne and married 'Tyrrell'
Athalia - christened 9 May1869 at Weeke just outside of Winchester, Hampshire
Job - christened 15 Jan 1871 at Inkpen
Polly - christened 15 Nov 1874 at Gooshill, Romsey, Hampshire. She married Henry Hughes
Alice - christened 15 Apr 1877 at Crawley, Hampshire
Harriett - christened 29 Sep 1880 at Chilworth, Southampton. She married 'Mr Dulmot'

Alice died in !911 in Otterbourne, which is between Southampton and Winchester, in Hampshire.

She was buried on 23 Nov 1911 in Botany Bay, Sholing which is now part of the city of Southampton, Hampshire.
